This is the 86th installment of a 100-day challenge to write a new vignette every morning.
She always had an interesting perspective on why the world must be flat. When my cousins and I were nearly 10, Great Aunt Tabitha demonstrated her point by placing a marble on the floor.
“See?“ she’d said. “No rolling.” We believed her then, but as we got older, we learned the truth, one by one. I was the last to change my mind—but not because I’m any dumber than the rest of them. Julian is way dumber than me. Just kidding, Julian.
I was the last one to change my mind because I loved Aunt Tabitha so much that I would’ve believed anything she said. And she was so dang persuasive. Good Ol’ Tabby stuck with the charade right up to her death, and in the end, I couldn’t tell whether she believed it all.
I’ll miss her for all these reasons and more. Goodbye, Aunt Tabitha.
