Sunrise Story #42

This is the 42nd installment of a 100-day challenge to write a new vignette every morning.

She looked into the mirror and saw another person. Alfred had told her to expect this, and Josephine had worried it would be difficult—but nothing had ever been so easy. She felt relief where she had expected guilt.

The girl in the mirror screamed and pounded on the glass, but she made no sound. Her crazed eyes found Josephine’s, but no connection passed between them. Josephine smirked—an expression her reflection did not share.

“Settle in,” Josephine said. “You’re going to be there a while.” Josephine looked at her new arms as she stretched. “Thanks for the loan.”
