Sunrise Story #37

This is the 37th installment of a 100-day challenge to write a new vignette every morning.

We need to rent a room for our party. We’ve gotten the decorations and the cake and the balloons, but our wonderful, marvelous, opinionated guest of honor had opinions about our choice of venue. The park is too big, she told us. And there are bugs, too. And children.

After weeks of planning, we pivoted. We convened an emergency party-planning meeting in the back of Delilah’s pickup truck, and we determined the one venue our lovely, delightful, demanding subject wouldn’t reject: the library.

It’s not conventional by any means, but they do rent rooms, and those rooms are small, free of most bugs, and easily rid of children. She’ll also be able to leave with an armful of books, so that’s a plus.

And she’ll have to keep her voice down, so that’s a plus for us. Everybody wins—except maybe the frantic high schoolers studying for the SAT.
