This is the 28th installment of a 100-day challenge to write a new vignette every morning.
I’d rather be a bird than a fish. A fish is really no different from all of us, if you think about it. They’re stuck in the same bowl or lake or ocean until they die, and they just swim and swim and swim without ever really getting anything out of it. Yeah, sure, they get to see the ocean, but really, how much water do you need to see before you get the idea?
In the sky, you can see everything. I’m not even up in the clouds right now, and the view is still amazing. Pine trees stretch on for miles, and the line where the sky meets the earth makes me feel like my problems aren’t all that bad. There’s a reason people hike, and it’s not because it makes them feel more like a fish.
Besides, if I was a bird, I’d be able to get down from here. This splint made from tree branches is not a long-term solution, and I don’t see it carrying me all the way down.
