Sunrise Story #24

This is the 24th installment of a 100-day challenge to write a new vignette every morning.

Seek success, but always be prepared for random cats. A restaurant opening brings all sorts of clientele, and The Hungry Harbor was no exception.

Lillian had prepared for weeks. She’d polished the place from ceiling to floor. She’d hired the best servers money could buy. She’d gotten a local paper to call the place “see-worthy.”

She’d selected her honey garlic salmon as the special for the evening. Friends and family had long agreed it was her best dish, but she didn’t realize the true extent of its popularity until she approached the front door five minutes before opening.

As she’d expected—as she’d hoped—a line awaited her, but she only had a moment of celebration before she noticed a cluster of cats loitering right in front of the door.

Her hostess—poached from a seafood chain down the street—looked from the posse to Lillian. “Should I, uh, get them a table?”
