Sunrise Stories: An Introduction

Miss me? Since my last post, I moved and started a new job, so naturally, I dropped off the face of the earth. (Oops.) I’m back now—hopefully to stay.

At the beginning of this year, I did what I called “The Spontaneity Project“: Every day for 100 days, I did something—anything—to break out of the regular day-to-day monotony. I found this to be beneficial in reframing how I approach daily life, so now I’m going to try a similar model for improving two more aspects of my life:

  1. Excessive snoozing of my alarm in the morning (I have never been a morning person)
  2. Inconsistent blog updates

Starting tomorrow, I will write a new vignette every morning for 100 days. I’ll use writing prompts for inspiration, and for now, I’ll start with this random sentence generator. For the sake of accountability, I’ll post the vignettes here every evening.

The idea here isn’t to produce perfectly polished writing prose (sorry, I couldn’t pass up the alliteration opportunity); the idea is to get words on the page—and get out of bed on time. I’m not giving myself an explicit time limit for each vignette, but I have to be out the door for work at 7:20 a.m., so the clock will be ticking. (I think the extra pressure will help, though; I’ve always been someone who needs deadlines in order to get myself moving.)

I’m telling you all of this now—before I go to bed—so my alarm will have a little extra kick tomorrow.
