Challenge: Write a 20-line poem about a memorable moment in your life.
I’m no poet, but let’s do this:
a Friday night
with friends gathered—
no, actually,
Saturday, with
friends and a couple stragglers
back from the frats
with hopes that the
party lives on:
breaking out cards,
letting food soak up the vodka
looking for snacks
in the freezer
wanting ice cream
instead, finding
a padlocked briefcase lying there
could it be drugs?
we ask around
who freezes drugs?
we never found out what it held
next day, briefcase gone, case unsolved.
Based on a true story. Really. Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

In an effort to start the summer strong, I’m doing Writer’s Digest’s 12-Day Plan.
