Drafting a novel is kind of like cooking spaghetti for a dinner party to which no one RSVPed. It’s a gamble; you don’t know if anyone will ever eat the spaghetti—although you hope they will—and you spend too much of your time flinging premature noodles at the wall, hoping they’ll stick. Ultimately, you end up with a messy kitchen and a set table that may not see any action. (“Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” anyone?)
Okay, maybe I haven’t been hosting dinner parties properly, but you get the idea: Writing is, at times, full of uncertainty and isolation. Sometimes that’s part of the appeal, but sometimes you just need someone to RSVP—even if the spaghetti might be undercooked.
I’ve been working on my YA trilogy for a few years now, and after countless rewrites (I lost track somewhere around six or seven?), I’m preparing to start pursuing publication. I’m letting the manuscript of the first book simmer for the month of March before giving it a penultimate read, sending it to beta readers, and then moving forward from there.
In the meantime, I’ve been trying to use March as a palate cleanser so I can return to the manuscript with fresh eyes. This means working on some of my other writing projects, experimenting with different styles, and maybe weaseling my way into the online writing community. That’s where this blog comes in. A writer friend, Sable, encouraged me to make a blog, so here I am.
I’ll probably be posting song-inspired stories, various thoughts on writing, and maybe some reviews of various fiction media, but we’ll see how it goes.
Stay tuned!
